Dawn Boult draws inspiration from the landscapes of San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country to blend the region’s natural beauty and rich artistic culture into her work. A lifelong art lover, she is a multimedia artist currently focused on pen and ink drawings and ceramics. Her drawings are always freehand, no rulers or measuring tools, and range from simple to symmetrically surreal. Her ceramic works emphasize both form and function, featuring artfully crafted, useful pieces such as boxes and table fountains. Her work reveals a deep appreciation for natural and geometric forms, shaped by diverse influences including cymatics, mandalas, religious art, and science. The result is a visual language of harmony and movement that invites full sensory immersion.
A true people-person with a positive spirit, Dawn enjoys connecting with others through her art, whether through intricate compositions, handcrafted ceramics, or custom commissions. Her drawings and fountains blend aesthetic beauty with organic elements, transforming spaces with elegance and balance.
For thousands of years, mandalas have aided in meditation and the creation of sacred spaces with the infusion of their radial balance and symmetry. "Mandala" is the generic term for most circular shaped designs, however Dawn's mandalas could also be considered to be a "yantra". In Sanskrit, 'yantra' means machine or absorber of cosmic energy. Vedic scholars study their diverse mystical properties as they resonate with our solar system and act as a tuning fork that connects us to a universal consciousness. Yantras represent the presence of the practitioner's focus of meditation through elaborate symbolic geometric expressions. They have strong transformative benefits in many religious and philosophical traditions. For example, the depiction, concentration on, or wearing of a yantra can emit a balancing energy in any space with their symmetric qualities.
A large source of inspiration for Dawn Boult's artworks is the science of cymatics. This is the study of geometric shapes created by sound vibrations. The term was coined by Hans Jenny, when he demonstrated that when the surface of a plate, diaphragm, or membrane is vibrated with sound, geometric designs are made visible in a thin coating of particles, such as sand, paste, or liquid. Different patterns emerge depending on the tone or sound.
